SpF® Implantable Spine Fusion Stimulator

The SpF® Implantable Spinal Fusion Stimulator received FDA approval* and was fully commercialized in 1987. Since then, thousands of Direct Current (DC) devices have been implanted in spinal fusion patients, including over 75,000 devices between 1995 and 2008.

Two Implantable Stimulator Options
Biomet Spine is pleased to offer two SpF® Implantable Stimulator Systems to suit your desired number of fusion levels.

One or Two Levels**
The SpF® PLUS-Mini Implantable Spinal Fusion Stimulator is indicated as a spinal fusion adjunct to increase the probability of fusion success in one or two levels.

Three or More Levels***
The SpF®-XL llb Implantable Spinal Fusion Stimulator is indicated as a spinal fusion adjunct to increase the probability of fusion success in three or more levels.

Surgical Techniques(1)
The SpF® Spine Fusion Stimulator may be used as an adjunct to lumbar spine fusion with or without internal fixation for surgical techniques such as:
  • Posterolateral fusion
  • Lumbosacral fusion
  • Combined facet and Intertransverse fusion
  • Pseudarthrosis repair
  • One level fusion
  • Two level fusion
  • Three or more level fusion


Risk Statement

Indications: The SpF® Plus-Mini (60 µA/W) and SpF® Plus-Mini (60 µA/M) Implantable Fusion Stimulators are indicated as a spinal fusion adjunct to increase the probability of fusion success in 1 or 2 levels. The SpF®-XL IIb Implantable Spinal Fusion Stimulators are indicated as a spinal fusion adjunct to increase the probability of fusion success in 3 or more levels.

Usage: The SpF® has only been studied as an adjunct for lumbar spinal surgery.

Contraindications: There are no known contraindications for the The SpF®-XL IIb Implantable Spinal Fusion Stimulators, SPF® Plus-Mini (60µA/W) or the SPF® Plus-Mini (60µA/M).
